When Ryan Fisher hit the ten-year mark of his wildly successful Chalk Performance Training, it was more than a milestone — it was a moment for reinvention. For a full decade, Chalk had been one of the most recognized performance gyms in Orange County, known for its elite training environment, strong community, and Fisher’s distinctive edge. But even the best gyms evolve.
The Vision
After ten years of wear and relentless energy, it was time for Chalk to match the modern times — and its high-performing clientele. Our goal was to elevate the gym’s aesthetic and flow while preserving the raw, gritty DNA that made it legendary. We focused on merging functionality with atmosphere: a space that felt as powerful as the people who train there.
The Design Strategy
We began by re-envisioning the layout, improving member flow and carving out new zones for rest, community, and content creation. The oversized front desk — a relic from earlier years — was scaled down to make room for a new client lounge zone, offering members space to hang out, store their gear, and recover between sessions.
Every surface and detail was refined:
•Full repaint of the entire facility with a black-on-black palette accented in Urban Bronze, creating a moody, modern, and cinematic atmosphere.
•Updated electrical to achieve a consistent 4000K color temperature across all fixtures — eliminating the mismatched tones that once dulled the space.
•Custom rift-sawn white oak cabinetry at the front desk and hallway for a touch of understated luxury.
•Decorative LED signage and two custom neon logo features added a vibrant, bold layer of brand expression.
The Experience
The refreshed space now mirrors the level of performance Chalk has always stood for. It’s sleek, moody, and unapologetically bold — a modern training environment for athletes, creators, and everyday high performers alike.
We also created a dedicated photo backdrop at the entryway for members and coaches to capture their pre- and post-workout moments. This intentional brand touchpoint has quickly become one of the most photographed spots in the gym — reinforcing Chalk’s community both on and offline.
The Result
Chalk’s facelift didn’t just modernize a facility — it elevated an entire experience. The design strikes a balance between raw performance and refined detail, a physical representation of what it means to train, connect, and evolve together.
