Aligned in Strength: Inside The Curious Builder Bootcamp
Attending The Curious Builder Bootcamp was something I had been looking forward to for a long time—though I didn’t fully understand why until I was there.
Over the last two years, I attended a different—but complementary—retreat: the BuildHer Summit. BuildHer brought together women in the building industry who were open and generous in sharing their experiences, lessons learned, and the evolving paths we’re all carving out in the built environment. It was raw, vulnerable, and deeply inspiring to be surrounded by women who are balancing leadership, family, and business at a high level.
That experience set a meaningful foundation.
So when I found myself returning to the same villa in Manuel Antonio for a third year—this time for The Curious Builder Bootcamp—I didn’t yet realize how different, and how perfectly aligned, this experience would be.
A Familiar Place, A New Perspective
We stayed at Villa Punto de Vista, a tranquil property perched above the waves in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. The combination of jungle, ocean air, and intentional design immediately set the tone.
When you remove yourself from daily noise—emails, job sites, deadlines—you create space to show up differently. More present. More honest. More willing to engage in real conversations about life, business, and leadership.
The Connection That Made It All Click
This experience came full circle through a connection with Morgan Molitor—creator, entrepreneur, and one of the driving forces behind BuildHer. Through Morgan, I met Mark D. Williams, host of The Curious Builder Podcast.
When I joined the podcast as a guest, Mark and I immediately connected over shared values around health, fitness, longevity, and building businesses with intention. Aligning my work with his fitness-focused builder bootcamp felt natural—especially knowing it would take place at the same villa where previous transformative experiences had occurred.
What Made The Curious Builder Bootcamp Different
Several elements made this retreat stand out in a way that felt both grounding and expansive.
A diverse group of professionals.
Not everyone in attendance was a builder. There were professionals from adjacent industries whose perspectives added depth, humor, and unexpected insight to the group dynamic.
A balanced mix of men and women.
The energy was refreshingly grounded—collaborative, open, and respectful. It wasn’t about posturing or proving anything; it was about showing up.
Jeffersonian-style conversations.
The evening discussions created space for vulnerability and depth. These conversations moved beyond surface-level networking and into meaningful dialogue about leadership, responsibility, and how we each navigate the world.
Doing hard things together.
There’s no shortcut to trust. Shared physical challenges, early mornings, and intentional discomfort accelerated connection in a way few environments can. Doing hard things together builds camaraderie quickly—and authentically.
Experiences beyond the workouts.
Excursions and shared adventures created organic moments of connection—without agendas, titles, or expectations.
A Misconception Worth Addressing
One assumption that quietly unraveled during this experience was the idea that men and women fundamentally show up differently in this industry.
While there may be differences in expression or communication, when you strip everything down—titles, gender, years of armor built in a demanding, male-dominated field—the core motivations are remarkably similar.
At the heart of it all are our families. Our children. Our desire to leave a meaningful legacy.
Many of us—regardless of gender—have learned how to put on the poker face, execute at a high level, and get shit done. But behind that exterior, the driving force is the same. We are all pushing to become better humans—not just better builders or business owners—for our families, our communities, and the clients who trust us.
That realization was one of the most refreshing aspects of the bootcamp. Not because we were different—but because we were aligned. Our challenges, values, and aspirations were far more alike than different.
The Bigger Takeaway
The Curious Builder Bootcamp wasn’t just about fitness or business strategy. It was about alignment—between mind, body, values, and purpose.
When people commit to showing up fully—physically, mentally, and emotionally—real trust is built. Real conversations happen. And real growth follows.
When you do hard things together, you don’t just leave stronger.
You leave connected.
