The Fitz & Foley Garage Gym Transformation
At Beachside Custom Gyms, we believe every square foot of your home should work as hard as you do. For the Fitz & Foley project, that meant taking a standard two-car garage and turning one side into a streamlined, high-performance fitness space—without sacrificing style, safety, or functionality.
Divide & Conquer: A Collaborative Approach
This project was a true collaboration. While we focused on the gym side, Nicole from Simply Seaside Organizing transformed the opposite side into a perfectly ordered storage zone. Together, we created a space where fitness and functionality merge seamlessly.
Creating Space Where There Wasn’t Any
The biggest challenge in this garage was space. A traditional water heater once ate up a valuable corner—the same corner that now holds the TV and free weights. We relocated it outside and upgraded to a tankless unit, instantly freeing up square footage for training. At the same time, we installed a ceiling cassette AC unit connected to an outdoor condenser. This move not only kept the gym cool, but also preserved the clean lines of the slat wall feature.
Flooring With Purpose
We designed the flooring with both function and aesthetics in mind. The vehicle side of the garage received polished concrete, while the gym side features durable rubber flooring. Together, they balance warm wood details and bold black equipment for a cohesive, high-end look.
Lighting That Works As Hard As You Do
Garages are notoriously dark, so lighting design was key. We installed flush-mounted L-shaped track lighting to brighten every corner without lowering the ceiling height. For Pilates sessions, fixtures were angled at 45° to avoid glare in the client’s eyes while still flooding the space with light. Over the squat rack, layered lighting adds depth and energy—perfect for high-intensity workouts.
Smart Equipment Integration
For this compact footprint, low-profile equipment was essential. We selected the Rep Fitness Athena wall-mounted rack with integrated cables, maximizing versatility without clutter. To solve an uneven floor issue, we inset one side of the rack into the flooring so everything aligned perfectly—a small detail that makes a big difference.
Other highlights include:
- Adjustable Dumbbells & Kettlebells – Durable, space-saving, and ergonomically designed.
- Angled TV Placement – Visible from anywhere in the gym without disrupting the mirror wall.
- Safety Features – Corner padding and mirror brackets to keep the space toddler-friendly.
Thoughtful Finishes
Design-forward touches elevate this gym beyond the typical garage setup. A stained white oak slat wall and floating shelf create warmth, with integrated lighting that glows from above and below. Even the backyard door was reconfigured as an outswing, opening the gym up instead of crowding it.
More Than Just a Gym
The result? A space that balances strength training, Pilates, yoga, and family time—all within half of a garage. The Fitz & Foley gym feels open, intentional, and inspiring, without ever feeling cramped. Most importantly, the homeowners are already using it daily—and loving it.
At Beachside Custom Gyms, that’s what success looks like: creating a space that not only fits into your home, but elevates your lifestyle.
