Mysa Hus | Minnesota
Where whole-home wellness meets Scandinavian restraint, and performance is built into the architecture.
The Challenge
Mysa Hus is a branded spec home by Mark D. Williams Custom Homes, designed around a whole-home philosophy of fitness, recovery, and wellness. Beachside Custom Gyms was brought in after construction was already underway, so the foundation, walls, doors, and windows were fixed. The challenge was to create a highly functional wellness studio within an established footprint.
Because this was a spec home, the space also needed to work for a future buyer we had not met yet. That meant balancing strength, cardio, mobility, and recovery while keeping the layout flexible enough to adapt to different training preferences.
The Design Solution
The detached wellness studio was organized around a smart mix of strength and cardio. The rack was placed where clearances and circulation worked best, while the cardio zone was planned around a bike and rower, two modalities that make especially good sense during a Minnesota winter.
We also planned for future flexibility. A dedicated electrical circuit allows the future homeowner to swap the rower for a treadmill without reworking the infrastructure, giving the space the ability to evolve over time.
The Wellness Experience
A custom sauna anchors the back of the studio, with direct access to the exterior for an easy transition to the Chilo cold plunge just outside. The plunge is tucked between the main house and the studio and color-matched to the home’s cedar exterior, making it feel fully integrated into the architecture.
Wide 8-foot doors open the studio to the patio, pergola, pool, and surrounding outdoor living areas, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor wellness experience.
The Look + Feel
The design draws from Mysa Hus’ Scandinavian-inspired architecture: warm cedar, clean lines, natural materials, and a restrained palette. The goal was to create a space that feels elevated and calming without losing its performance edge.
The result is less like a traditional home gym and more like a private wellness retreat, a space where training, recovery, and outdoor living are intentionally connected.
